Super tough by perennially crumpled PI Nestor Pike gets beaten up for being involved in a case he is not yet involved in. So of course, he does. Periodically he gets beaten up again but always wins (!) He is deeply ambivalent about life in general after feeling responsible for the death of his son, and is therefore a pain in the neck to his estranged wife. He doesn’t as much move forward on anything as events move forward on him.
