How people who read this book as their first introduction can work out how relationships came to be so convoluted, I don’t know.

This book has much less of young Bertie than one would wish, though his father does get round to asserting himself a tad more. It’s a lot about Angus and Domenica and Brian is born again as someone who tells the truth (but it takes a long way through the book). Martin gets married quietly. Not much drama her except for the shooting (with bows and arrows) in the park witnessed by Bernie and his friends AND Ian Rankin.
