As his final case, it’s a winner for plot, amusing ironic narrative and all-round ambiance.
Zen is asked to go and substitute in Calabria – at the toe of Italy, and is supposed to just keep things ticking over and not get too involved. They clearly didn’t know him , for when an American scout for a record company is murdered Zen immediately scents some underlying issues and problems within the community which are being covered up. Meanwhile, another bizarre, mad American is on a singleminded treasure-hunting mission which they are covering up by pretending to look for film locations. Weird stuff follows.
