His detective, Harry Bosch is as edgy and difficult as ever, and the plot is excellent and very topical – he has to suffer working with the FBI and Homeland Security – and the book is over much too quickly. Harry Bosch is called to a crime scene on Mulholland Overlook – its not his area but he is to help out a neighbouring force- but he soon finds that this is not a random killing – the victim, a physicist working with radioactive materials- has obviously handed over some dangerous stuff to whoever killed him. Bosch has to work with his ex partner Rachel in the FBI and break in his new partner Ignacio. Breaking most rules as usual he keeps his eyes firmly on the murder –let someone else worry about other issues, so, of course, he ends up noticing more. But a lot of folks still get hurt along the way.
